1. Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park
Best for hiking and Old Florida scenery
Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park is where you go when you want to experience Florida the way it used to be.
The park features wooded trails, towering oak trees draped with Spanish moss, native vegetation, and beautiful stretches of Myakkahatchee Creek. It also connects to a much larger network of protected land, offering visitors a glimpse of Old Florida before development transformed the landscape.
Trails are open for hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding, and primitive camping is available by permit. Since portions of the trail system can become muddy after rain, sturdy footwear is highly recommended.

2. Walton Ranch Preserve

Located along North Toledo Blade Boulevard, the preserve spans approximately 3,760 acres with more than 19 miles of multi-use trails winding through pine flatwoods, marshes, hardwood hammocks, and historic ranchland.
Its size and variety make it feel far more remote than your typical neighborhood trail.

3. Orange Hammock Wildlife Management Area

Orange Hammock Wildlife Management Area offers one of the most authentic wilderness experiences in the North Port area.
This protected property contains thousands of acres of wetlands, pine flatwoods, dry prairie, and wildlife habitat. Visitors can enjoy hiking, biking, horseback riding, fishing, wildlife observation, and seasonal hunting opportunities.
Unlike a traditional park, Orange Hammock isn't manicured or landscaped—and that's exactly what makes it special.
Wildlife sightings may include deer, sandhill cranes, wading birds, alligators, and many native Florida species.
Because it is an active Wildlife Management Area, regulations and access may vary during hunting seasons.
